Flying to and from Denver in Colorado, you’ll drive a loop visiting the stunning Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Canyonlands and Arches National Parks, Jackson Hole, Salt Lake City and Mount Rushmore.
All our road trips can be shortened or extra nights added or modified with upgraded hotels, car etc. We love building tailor made trips!
Days 1 & 2:
Denver (2 nights)
Fly into Denver, known as the Mile High City and stay here for your first two nights. Spend an evening in Lower Downtown, knows as LoDo. While you’re here you might want to visit the nearby Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Your first overnight stop will be in Cheyenne, the Wyoming state capital. With a rich history in the old west there are plenty of attractions here, two of our favourites are the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum and the Wyoming State Capitol Building.
Days 4 & 5:
Mount Rushmore (2 nights)
You’ll head up to South Dakota today and stay in Keystone which will be your base for the next two nights. You’ll have a full day to visit Mount Rushmore, the famous rock sculpture of four former presidents. You may also want to visit the nearby Badlands National Park with its dramatic and rugged landscape
Head west to Sheridan, making a little detour to see the amazing Devils Tower National Monument before arriving at your overnight stop near Bighorn National Forest. Downtown Sheridan is worth a visit too.
Today you’ll head into Cody, founded by William "Buffalo Bill” Cody in 1901. There are plenty of Buffalo Bill museums and signs of the old west in this wondeful town which is located just 50 miles from Yellowstone’s east entrance.
Days 8 -10:
Yellowstone NP (3 nights)
Enjoy the scenic drive into Yellowstone, the US’s first national park. Established in 1872 it is home to hundreds of species of wildlife including bears, wolves, bison, antelope and elk. Staying here for three nights gives you time to explore the park and its forests, rivers, hot springs and geysers including Old Faithful.
Days 11 & 12:
Grand Teton NP (2 nights)
Drive through the wonderful Grand Teton National Park to Jackson. This makes a great base for exploring the parks, lakes, forests and hiking trails.
Salt Lake City
Tonight you will stay in Salt Lake City, founded by Mormon settlers and home of their world HQ. Sitting between the Great Salt Lake and Wasatch Range, this wonderful city is also the state capital of Utah.
Days 14 -15:
Canyonlands & Arches (2 nts)
Moab will be your base for the next two nights and is the perfect location to visit Canyonlands and Arches National Parks. Both of these have wonderful rock formations and an abundance of wildlife inhabit each of these parks.
You’ll take the long drive back to Denver today for the final evening of your holiday. Get back in time to enjoy Lower Downtown and the selection of restaurants and bars on offer.
Days 17 & 18:
Denver & Fly Home
Make the most of your final morning in Denver, take a bike ride or visit some of the many attractions that you may have missed at the beginning of your trip. This evening you’ll catch your overnight flight back to the UK..
The Rocky Mountain National Park is home to wildlife including elks and bears and has many hiking trails to explore. Estes Park, at the entrance to the national park is a relatively short drive from Denver. We can add this as an extra day between Denver and Cheyenne.
You’ll stay in Cody for one night before you enter the East entrance to Yellowstone National Park. We can add an extra day or two for you to stop and enjoy this old west town. The Buffalo Bill Center of the West has 5 museums where you can learn about William F Cody’s life.
About 150 miles south of Moab is the Magnificent Monument Valley which is well worth an overnight stop. As you approach the area you’ll notice the famous view used for countless western films. Make sure you arrive in plenty of time for the sunset, it’s astonishing!
